Done! Win-Win

After my previous post about the disastrous results of trying new yarn, you and I both would have thought I’d have sworn off the thought of knitting in a new yarn ever again.  Fortunately for those involved in the story of this project, this has not been the case.

The story starts off the same.  Dear friend asks me to make her a particular object in a specific color.  We go to yarn store together where she picks out yarn.  Fortunately for me, I am able to direct the yarn purchase so that it would be 100% wool.  It’s not from a yarn manufacturer I’d used before, but it looks like decent stuff (in a skein and without debris!).

The yarn I’m referring to is Quince & Co. Chickadee in the Parsley colorway.

My friend asked that I make her fingerless mitts.  She’s been wearing the same worn-through pair of store-bought fingerless mitts for years and was in dire need of a replacement pair.  She just asked that they not be bulky or ride up past her knuckles or go past her wrist.  She also wanted a little bit of style to them.

The project I chose is Tough & Toasty by Martina Behm (Strickmich!).

It’s such a simply brilliant pattern; I would never think of it. Even though it’s got elements of garter and stockinette stitch, the mitts are mostly knit in the round.  Elizabeth Zimmermann would be proud.

Not only do the mitts knit up quickly, but they only required half a ball. That means I’ve cast on another pair!
